Is it worth repairing my boiler or should I replace it?
This depends on the age of your boiler, the nature of the fault and the cost of the repair. Our engineers will always give you honest, straightforward advice. If a repair is the smarter option, we’ll tell you – and if a replacement is more cost-effective in the long run, we’ll explain why and provide a no-obligation quote.
What is a boiler lockout?
A boiler lockout is when your boiler shuts itself down as a safety measure after detecting a fault. It’s usually indicated by an error code on the display. Rather than repeatedly resetting your boiler, it’s important to have the underlying fault diagnosed and repaired by a Gas Safe Registered engineer.
My boiler is making a strange noise – do I need a repair?
Unusual noises from your boiler – such as banging, gurgling or whistling – are often a sign that something isn’t right. Common causes include air in the system, low water pressure or a build-up of sludge. It’s best to get it checked sooner rather than later to avoid more costly damage down the line.
Do you offer boiler replacements if my boiler can't be repaired?
Yes. If your boiler is beyond repair or no longer economical to fix, we can advise on and install a replacement boiler from leading manufacturers including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant and Ideal. Contact us for a free no-obligation quote.
What does the fault code on my Worcester Bosch boiler mean?
Based on our decades of experience, we have encountered many common Worcester Bosch fault codes, including:
EA 227 / EA 229 – Ignition Failure
No flame detected. Check your gas supply is on and try resetting the boiler. If the fault persists, the ignition electrode or gas valve may need attention from a Gas Safe engineer.
D5 / EA 229 – Frozen Condensate Pipe
A common fault in cold weather. The condensate pipe, which carries waste water away from the boiler, has frozen and is blocking the boiler. In some cases this can be thawed – contact us for advice.
E9 – Overheating / Safety Temperature Limiter Tripped
Your boiler has detected overheating and shut down as a safety measure. Check your system pressure and bleed your radiators. If the fault continues, the pump or heat exchanger may be at fault – call an engineer.
H07 – Low Water Pressure
Your boiler pressure has dropped below the recommended level. Re-pressurise the system to around 1.5 bar. If pressure keeps dropping, there may be a leak in the system.
CE 201 – Flow Temperature Sensor Fault
A faulty or incorrectly wired temperature sensor. This requires attention from a Gas Safe engineer.
C1 / C6 – Fan Fault
The boiler fan is not operating correctly. This needs to be inspected and repaired by a Gas Safe engineer.
A5 – Fan Fault
Similar to C6, the fan may not be running correctly. Requires a Gas Safe engineer to inspect and repair.
9U – Code Plug Fault
A problem with the boiler’s code plug – either faulty or not connected correctly. Requires an engineer.
SE – Service Due
This is not a fault code – it indicates your boiler has run for approximately 2,324 hours and is due for its annual service. Contact us to book your Boiler Service.
